Lady Panthers roar back to state, looking to repeat

North Platte senior Olivia Rogers broke yet another program record after crossing the finish line in 24.54 seconds in the 200-meter dash in districts at Plattsburg High School on May 13.

It was another successful day for the North Platte girls’ track and field team who qualified 13 of its 15 events to state in the Class 2 Sectional 4 Meet at Plattsburg High School on May 13.

North Platte looked at Olivia Rogers once again as the senior not only broke another school record, but also earned a gold medal in all four events she competed in. She set the program record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.54 seconds, winning the race.

Rogers won the 100-meter dash in 11.95 seconds and was on two of the three first place North Platte relays. She was the second leg in the 4x100 and the anchor in the 4x400 – joined by Kalli Schuster in both – which took times of 49.54 seconds and 4:06.49, respectively.

Lonee French and Bella Kitmitto were on the 4x100 that set the North Platte record, while Graci Williams and Lindsay Ramsey were on the 4x400. Schuster, French, Williams and Ramsey earned a silver medal in the 4x200, crossing the finish line in 1:46.26.

Along with the two relays, Ramsey will be competing in two individual events at state: the open 200 and 400. At sectionals, the sophomore won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.51 seconds and earned a silver medal in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 25.07 seconds and only lost to Rogers.

Brianna DeBord and Chloe Heckman were the first two runners to cross the finish lines in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs. The duo was joined by Shelby Lingle and Jessa Cassity in the 4x800, winning the race in 10:10.68, which was nearly five seconds faster than the next team.

Lingle also had success as an individual in the long-distance, becoming the runner-up in the 800-meter run. The senior crossed the finish line in 2:27.05, which was a PR for her in the event.

DeBord won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:32.56, followed by Heckman in 5:34.21. Heckman beat DeBord in the 3,200-meter run as the duo finished in times of 12:07.02 and 12:14.07, respectively.

Schuster fell short of qualifying for state in the 100-meter dash when the senior took sixth place in 12.83 seconds. Williams finished in fifth in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 1:02.32, which was 1.29 seconds shy of state.

North Platte had five boys who competed in sectionals and had two qualify for state. Noah Heckman is once again making the trip to Jefferson City High School in the 3,200-meter run after taking second place with a time of 10:20.3.

Corbin Britting ran in three sprints – the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes – and advanced to state in one of them. The junior took fourth place in the 200-meter dash, doing so in 22.73 seconds.

Britting was 0.05 seconds too slow in the 100-meter dash as he claimed fifth place in 11.29 seconds. He took seventh place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.62 seconds.

Coen Rainsbarger had a great season in the long jump pit, but it ended with a 20-02.25-foot leap and a fifth-place finish. Cameron Wortham ended in eighth place in the discus with a 108-07-foot throw.

North Platte will head to Jefferson City High School for the Class 2 State Meet as the Lady Panthers are the reigning champions. State will take place over two days, starting on May 19 and ending on May 20.
