Lady Panthers, Trojans in rough patch as postseason approaches

Park Hill South’s leading scorer Olivia Clemons has led the Lady Panthers to a 12-5 record and the No. 2 seed in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament.

The postseason is right around the corner for the Park Hill (6-11) and Park Hill South (12-5) girls’ soccer teams, who have both lost their two most recent games.

Park Hill South has had a rocky stretch as of late after a 10-0 start, losing five of its last seven. Most recently, the Lady Panthers lost 1-0 to Staley (8-12) on May 2 and then fell to Liberty (12-7) by the same score on May 4.

Both opponents were rematches that Park Hill South had beaten early on, but the results were different in the second matchup. The Lady Panthers will end the regular season with a home contest against Lee’s Summit North (11-4) on May 11.

Park Hill beat Staley 2-0 on May 1 but got outscored 7-1 in its following two contests. Losing 5-1 to Lee’s Summit (11-3) on May 2 and coming up short 2-0 against Lee’s Summit North, the Lady Trojans’ final game was a matchup with Liberty on May 9.

The rivals will be in familiar territory for the postseason, being in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament at Park Hill South High School, which is each squad’s home field. The Lady Panthers are the No. 2 seed and the Lady Trojans are the No. 4 seed.

Districts will begin on May 13 as Park Hill will start the day off with a matchup against Staley at 1 p.m. Park Hill South will take on St. Joseph’s Central (7-10) – a team that the Lady Panthers haven’t lost to in more than a decade and have scored at least six goals on the last seven matchups – at 5 p.m.
