The Park Hill South girls’ basketball team (5-0) erased an early deficit against North Kansas City (1-2) to stay unbeaten with a 44-32 victory on Dec. 9.
The Panthers had a sluggish start – only scoring four points in the opening frame opposed to the Hornets’ 11 points – and Park Hill South trailed by seven points when the second quarter started. The Panthers flipped the switch and held the Hornets to four points for the rest of the first half and Park Hill South had a 17-15 lead at the break.
The Panthers trailed 28-27 entering the final eight minutes of action, but they made more plays than the Hornets did down the stretch to come out on top with a 12-point margin. Six Panthers were able to make at least one field goal, led by Avery Simmons who scored a team-high nine points, along with six rebounds and two assists.
Senior guard Cameron Farber and sophomore guard Regan Williams stepped up on both sides of the court when each Panther finished with eight points and the duo combined for seven blocks and three steals. Park Hill South will look to continue their strong start to the 2021 season when it hosts Fort Osage (2-5) in the Panthers’ home opener on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
