The Park Hill South girls’ tennis team went 3-1 in the last seven day as the Panthers won three matches against Lee’s Summit, St. Joseph’s Central and North Kansas City while falling to Pembroke Hill.
On Sept. 14, Park Hill South dominated its home match versus Lee’s Summit by a score of 8-1. Elie Eason was the only Panther to fall in the individual matches as she lost 8-6 to Ellie Wuebker.
In the doubles matches, all three teams came out on top over the Tigers led by the top duo of Vivien Hamilton and Sydney Dial winning their match 8-3. Hana Bytyqi and Camile Verhoeven won their doubles match 8-4 while the Eason sisters defeated their Tiger opponents 8-3.
Park Hill South was home again on Sept. 15 when St. Joseph’s Central came to town and lost to the Panthers 9-0. Hamilton and Dial both won their individual matches by only giving up one point, while Bytyqi and Elie Eason defeated their individual Indian opponents by a score of 8-4 each.
Kate Eason swept her opponent and Verhoeven pulled out an 8-5 win. Park Hill South’s top doubles team swept St. Joseph’s Central, while Bytyqi and Verhoeven won 8-2 and the Eason sisters came out on top, 8-6.
The Panthers only loss on the week was to Pembroke Hill on Sept. 20 when Park Hill South fell in a tough match, 5-4. Dial and Kate Eason were the only Panthers to secure single victories as they won their matches by scores of 6-4 and 6-1.
Park Hill South made a comeback attempt in the doubles matches when the top two teams bested the Raiders doubles teams. Dial and Hamilton came out on top by a score of 6-2, while Kate Eason and Bytyqi won their match 6-1.
With the final doubles match deciding the overall victory on the day, the Raiders double team of Isabella Legaz and Emma Harris beat the Panther duo of Elie Eason and Verhoeven. The Pembroke Hill duo outscored the Park Hill South duo 6-3 to secure the win on the day.
Park Hill South didn’t lose any singles or doubles matches when it defeated North Kansas City 9-0 on Sept. 21. Every singles match ended with the Hornet player scoring only one or two points and the Panther player scoring eight points.
The Panthers top doubles team was in the closet match of the day when Hamilton and Dial beat North Kansas City’s top two players by a score of 8-6. Kate Eason and Bytyqi swept their opponent, while Elie Eason and Verhoeven won 8-1.
Park Hill South will be on the road this weekend when they head to Oak Park on Thursday, Sept. 23, in a match starting at 4 p.m. The Panthers also return to Oak Park on Saturday, Sept. 25, for a tournament.
