In the opening weekend of the season, the Platte County softball team (3-2) finished in second place in the Silver Bracket of the Greater Kansas City Tournament at Adair Park on August 27.
In the Silver Bracket Championship, Platte County fell short against Oak Grove 5-4. The Lady Panthers scored the first two runs, but an Abby Reynolds sacrifice fly gave Platte County its first run in the bottom of the third inning.
Demi Riechers and Harper Humes had a pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Lady Pirates a 3-2 margin before Oak Grove tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Reynolds had an RBI double in the seventh inning and Platte County went up 4-3. Oak Grove scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-4 lead and win the game.
Platte County defeated Belton 5-3 in the first game of the Silver Bracket but trailed early. Belton led 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, then Platte County had several hits and capitalized on some errors to take a 5-3 margin and eventually won.
The Lady Pirates went on to beat Park Hill 3-2 in five innings, despite falling behind early. The Lady Trojans scored two runs in the opening inning, but the Lady Pirates loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth inning and then took a 3-2 lead and won by that score.
In pool play, Platte County lost 5-3 against Liberty and then took down Holden 12-4 on August 26. The Lady Pirates will have their first game back at Platte County High School since 2020 – after having all of last fall’s home games at Platte Ridge Park – when Blue Springs comes to town on September 1.
