The Platte County volleyball team is in mid-season form as the Pirates won their tenth straight match when they swept Raytown South on Sept. 18, and Ruskin on Sept. 23.
After coming out on top in the Winnetonka Tournament, the Pirates kept the strong play rolling when they hosted the Cardinals. Platte County won all three sets and never allowed Raytown South to score more than 12 points in any of the three sets.
The Pirates were even more dominant when they headed to Ruskin and won 3-0, only allowing the Eagles to score a total of 14 points. Platte County won the three sets by scores of 25-2, 25-6 and 25-7.
Pirate senior Kate Brown ended with seven aces and Mary Grace Hunter finished with six aces. Emerson Walter had 31 assists in the match against Ruskin while Morgan Cox added 10 digs.
However, Platte County’s impressive win streak was snapped on senior night when St. Pius X won 3-1 on Sept. 27. The Pirates lost the opening two sets, 25-19, before taking set three, 25-21.
Platte County battled St. Pius X in the final set, but fell just short by a score of 26-24 to lose its first match since Sept. 11. The Pirates move to 17-8 on the season and their next match will be against Pembroke Hill on Sept. 29.
