After splitting a pair of games of pool play in the Greater Kansas City Tournament, the Park Hill softball team (2-3) finished in fourth place in the Silver Bracket at Adair Park on August 27.
Park Hill struggled in the opening game of pool play, losing 11-0 to Fort Osage on August 26. The Lady Trojans didn’t let that phase them, bouncing back with a 2-1 win over St. Joseph’s Lafayette.
“I’m not feeling bad about it at all,” Park Hill head coach Kylie Guthier said after the Lafayette game. “We’ve got a young squad so our ability to come back after a loss was really all I was looking for on day one.”
Park Hill had the 2-1 lead late in the bottom of the final inning and the Fighting Irish had two runners on with one out. The Lady Trojans were able to close out the game to secure their first win of the fall.
“We talk on a daily basis in practice that this game is all about momentum; snd so right there, they had the momentum so we’re talking about taking that back and taking back control,” Guthier said.
Park Hill advanced to the Silver Bracket on day two of the Greater Kansas City Tournament with an early morning matchup with Lee’s Summit. The Lady Trojans took care of business and moved on to play Platte County.
“With my girls being so young, they’ve got that go get them spirit, so they’re just a scrappy little team. And I think they just naturally do that,” Guthier said.
The Lady Trojans struck first against the Lady Pirates, scoring two runs in the first inning. Platte County took a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning and pulled out the victory in five innings.
Park Hill played Truman in the third-place game and fell short. The Lady Trojans will be back at it when they head to Blue Springs South on September 1.
