The North Platte volleyball team (0-3-1) had some early season struggles at the KCI Volleyball Tournament at East Buchanan High School on August 27.
The Lady Panthers’ opening match was against the school that was hosting the tournament when the Bulldogs took set one by a score of 25-6. North Platte doubled its score in the ensuing set but still fell 25-13 to fall short in the match.
North Platte’s next pool play opponent was West Platte who had similar dominance, sweeping the Lady Panthers. The winning squad won the first set 25-9 and then ended the match with a 25-13 victory in set two.
North Platte had a tight match with Plattsburg, with both sets being decided by three points or less. The Lady Panthers snuck past the Lady Tigers in the first set, 25-23, to win their first set of the season before falling 25-22 and ending the match with a 1-1 tie in the final pool play match.
The final match for North Platte was against Mid-Buchanan when the Lady Panthers were outscored 50-17 in the sweep. While North Platte was unable to walk out of the tournament with a victory, there were some solid individual performances.
Kinsey Niedfeldt ended the day with 17 digs, nine kills and four aces, while Kylee Sipes had 20 digs and Bailey Richardson had 10 assists. North Platte will host Nodaway-Holt with West Nodaway on September 1.
