Lady Trojans' struggle continues in Townsend's absence

The Lady Trojans’ basketball team (9-7) has been struggling without its best player - Kennedy Townsend - as Park Hill has dropped three of its last four games in her absence.

After falling to Liberty (7-6) in the Kearney Tournament Championship, Park Hill fell to Liberty North (8-6) 50-10 on Jan. 19. The Lady Trojans poured out seven shots from downtown opposed to the Eagles’ one 3-pointer, but it wasn’t enough.

Maddie Crump and McKenna Sonsa both sunk three shots from behind the arc and Amaya Blake added a trey as the trio were the only Park Hill players to score in double figures. Blake led the way with 15 points - and four steals - while Crump and Sonsa both scored 11 points.

The Lady Trojans bounced back and defeated Raymore-Peculair (5-11) 49-43 on Jan. 20. After that, Park Hill had to take on one of the top teams in the Gold Division in Blue Springs South (12-2, conf: 6-0) on Jan. 24.

The Lady Jaguars bested the Lady Trojans 52-35, putting Park Hill’s conference record under .500 at 2-3. Blake ended with a team-high 15 points.
