Liberty scores 4 late runs to beat Park Hill South

Park Hill South rallied to force a tie and almost as quickly as that happened, the tie vanished.

Liberty scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie and picked up an 8-4 win on Thursday, Oct 17 in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament in Liberty.

Liberty went on to win the district championship, beating top-seeded Liberty North.

The victory over the Blue Jays was the third of the season over Park Hill South.

Liberty (22-4) built a 4-0 lead against the Panthers (14-14) in this showdown.

Park Hill South rallied with a run in the fifth inning and three in the sixth inning.

Chantice Phillips opened the fifth with a triple and scored on Jesse Hagen’s ground out.

Cassidy Taylor had a two-run double the next inning to pull the Panthers within a run. With two outs, Meggen Keller singled to bring home the tying run.

Liberty had five straight two-out singles in the bottom half of the inning to break the tie and pull ahead for good.

Jolie McMinn went 3-for-4 for Park Hill South, while Keller was 2-for-3. 

The Panthers left 10 runners on base in the loss.
