Chloe Norris is about to take part in her fourth MSHSAA Tennis Championship this weekend.
The Park Hill South senior will be an entrant in the doubles field again, this time with her third playing partner in as many years.
The state tournament will run from Thursday, Oct. 24 to Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. The doubles portion of the Class 2 meet will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.
Norris and freshman Vivien Hamilton won a doubles match against St. Teresa’s Academy’s Lauren Adriano and Thais Montagner during the Class 2 Sectional 8 meet held on Tuesday at the Plaza Tennis Courts in Kansas City.
The Panthers duo won the first set, 7-5, rallying from a 5-4 deficit. The Stars won the second set 7-6, winning the tiebreaker, 7-2. In the deciding set, Norris and Hamilton won 6-2.
Norris was at state last year with Anne Saunders and the two years prior played with older sister, Abby Norris.
The duo will learn of their state draw on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
There were two other matches on Tuesday.
Park Hill’s Elise McFee lost in straight sets to Blue Springs’ Bentley Walters, 6-1 and 6-1.
Park Hill South’s double team of Sydney Dial and Nicki Matthews lost 6-2 and 6-3 to Meredith Mason and Ellen Mason of St. Teresa’s Academy.
The Panthers’ team season came to an end on Saturday, Oct. 19 against St. Teresa’s Academy, 5-1.
The lone win came from Norris/Hamilton in doubles, 8-4.
The Stars then defeated Columbia Rock Bridge to advance to the state final four, 5-4. The win was a big upset as the Bruins had won the past five state championships and been in the state finals the past 10 years.
