KANSAS CITY – Bryce Lisaka put the Park Hill football team (2-1) on his back on homecoming, scoring all five of the Trojans’ touchdowns in the 35-33 win over Blue Springs South (0-3) on Sept. 8.
The senior skills’ player has been a vertical threat for Park Hill the last couple seasons but took his talents to the ground by scoring four rushing touchdowns from the goal line. Lisaka first scored when he put the Trojans up 7-6 in the first quarter after Blue Springs South got on the board first.
The second quarter was back-and-forth with four total touchdowns – two by each team – as Lisaka ran in from the 1-yard-line, twice. His last one of the first half was with 19 seconds on the clock and Park Hill went into the locker room with a 21-20 lead.
The Jaguars regained the lead with nine minutes left in the third quarter with a 4-yard gain and added an extra point. Lisaka found the end zone once again with 5:12 left in the third quarter, making it the ninth lead change up to that point, making the score 28-27.
For the first time in the night, a team scored two consecutive touchdowns when Lisaka brought in a 19-yard reception from Gavin Schaag to the end zone with 6:56 to play. Trailing 35-27, Blue Springs South had a chance to tie the game after Ayden Wilhelm completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Caysen Stevenson but failed on the 2-point conversion.
With the game going down to the wire, Park Hill decided to go for it on a 4th and four from the Blue Springs South 33-yard-line, but Schaag’s pass hit the turf. Blue Springs South had one more chance to take a late lead, but Dante Dixon intercepted Wilhelm’s pass on the first play.
With the victory, Park Hill is one win shy of last seasons’ total. The Trojans will try and earn win number three when they head to Liberty (1-2) on Sept. 15.
