Two Platte County football players have been named finalists for the most prestigious Kansas City metro area award.
Platte County junior quarterback Rocco Marriott and Park Hill senior quarterback Zane Thomas have both been named finalists for the Thomas A. Simone Award given to the metro’s most outstanding football player and has been awarded since 1983.
Thomas threw for over 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns, leading the Trojans to a Class 6 district championship and a trip to the Class 6 quarterfinals.
Marriott is still playing after leading his team to the Class 5 championship game this Saturday in Columbia. During the regular season, Marriott threw for just under 2,000 along with 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Marriott also rushed for 369 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In four postseason games, Marriott has rushed for 182 yards and seven touchdowns along with throwing for 812 yards and nine touchdowns.
