Mid-Buch wins 1st district title since 1982

Mid-Buchanan won a district title for the first time since 1982 and a handful of North Platte wrestlers played a part in the 206 points the Dragons had in the Class 1 District 4 tournament.

The Dragons held off KCI Conference foe Lawson by six points to secure the title, after winning the KCI Conference championship late last month.

North Platte’s Clayton Rotterman, second from right, was the runner-up for Mid-Buchanan at the 120-pound class at the Class 1 District 4 tournament.

Mid-Buchanan will be sending 11 qualifiers to the state tournament this week in Columbia, two of them from North Platte.

Clayton Rotterman (120) and Seth Cruz (195) will be at state representing the North Platte-Mid Buch co-op.

Rotterman, a freshman, won his first two matches to make the finals, pinning South Harrison’s Carter Crabtree and winning 3-2 against East Atchison’s Justin Stanton in the semifinals.

Gallatin’s Ross Critten won by fall against Rotterman (26-19) in the finals.

Cruz took fourth place and earned his spot at the state by beating West Platte’s Lamar Henderson by a pin in 2:24 in the consolation semifinals. Cruz (27-21) then lost by pin to Penney’s Elijah Harper in the third-place match by a fall at 2:09.

Two other North Platte students competed for Mid-Buchanan: Aden Woolard and JP Hartigan.

Woolard (182) and Hartigan (220) both went 1-2, though Hartigan got an upset over top-seeded Austin Colvin of Stanberry in the opening round by a pin.

West Platte had another wrestler come close to earning a spot at the state meet.

Jacob Brown (170) reached the bubble round but lost to Mid-Buchanan’s Wade Stanton by a pin to finish the year with an 18-16 record.

Two other Bluejays finished the season with a winning record: Peyson Chandler (19-15) and Macon McDonald (20-18).
