A high speed chase on Interstate 29 in Kansas City, Mo., ended with the arrest of a Maitland, Mo. man for armed robbery of a bank on March 21.
Nicholas Lehman, 38, was arrested by police and taken to Buchanan County Sheriff’s department on an arrest warrant. Lehman is being accused of robbing the Citizens Bank & Trust in St. Joseph, Mo., on Monday, March 18. He is also suspected of robbing another bank in Kansas City two days later in Platte County.
The North America Savings Bank was robbed Wednesday morning. It was the second time in a calendar year the bank was robbed. Last April the bank was robbed.
According to a release from Nodaway County Sheriff Randy Strong, his office began investigating last Tuesday, March 19, after detectives’ leads from Buchanan County led them to Maryville after it had been determined the suspect had recently been there. The investigation determined Lehman had also been living in Maitland.
Strong contacted Holt County Sheriff Dave McClain and was granted permission to conduct a mutual aid investigation on behalf of Holt County. The Holt County Sheriff’s department asked for help because of the flooding.
Nodaway County along with Buchanan County and the Missouri Highway Patrol conducted two residence searches in Maitland but did not find the suspect. During interviews law enforcement determined Lehman had been in Maitland the day before the first robbery but had not returned since.
Strong said Lehman has a criminal history that includes convictions for armed criminal action, forgery and first-degree robbery. Lehman was identified by cameras at the bank.
