Nine Pirates set to continue their athletic careers

Nine Pirates will be cruising to collegiate athletics as the Platte County athletes made commitments to continue their athletic careers on Nov. 17.

Platte County had nine senior athletes announce where they are committing to continue their academic and athletic careers at on Nov. 17.

Three Platte County baseball players will be playing collegiate baseball: Sawyer Allen, Landon Fulk and Ben Spence. Spence will be going to MidAmerica Nazarene University, Allen will attend Rockhurst University and Fulk will head to Johnson Community College.

Alli Gill helped lead the Platte County softball team to back-to-back 3rd place finishes at state and the senior will look to translate that success to the collegiate level. Gill will be playing softball at Central Methodist University.

Andrew Early just capped off his senior cross-country campaign with a 27th place finish in the Class 4 State Race. Early will be doing track and cross-country at Pittsburg State University.

Riley Smith helped lead the Platte County girls’ soccer team to a 24-3 record last season as the midfielder caught attention from Park University. Smith will continue to be a Pirate in college, but will trade in Platte County orange and black for Park University yellow and red.

Eden Shipp had multiple state golf appearances in her Platte County career and will be competing at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. Molly McBratney will continue her tennis career at William Jewell College.
