The names of the two victims in a shooting incident in Parkville last week have been released, but no charges have been filed as of Friday.
Kalob Lawson, 34, of Kimberling City, Mo., and Jonathan Lutz, 44, of Kansas City, were killed Wednesday, Feb. 10, allegedly after a dispute over firewood. According to Parkville chief of police Kevin Chrisman, the suspect fled the scene but later called police and confessed.
Parkville police responded to a shooting incident near Highway 9 and Coffey Road near Park University at about 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10. One man died at the scene and the second, who was a passenger, was pronounced dead at an area hospital about an hour later.
Chrisman said the shooting appears to have originated from a dispute between parties over the sale of firewood in the 6700 block of Hidden Valley Road in unincorporated Platte County, west of Parkville. Lawson and Lutz, along with a juvenile teenager, drove away from the location in a truck with a trailer loaded with firewood. The truck was pursued by a car until it pulled over on the shoulder of eastbound Hwy. 9. The pursuing vehicle stopped in front of the truck and a male exited the vehicle and began firing a handgun at the truck, striking both men. The juvenile was unharmed.
The suspect was taken into custody after his confession. The Parkville police continue to investigate the incident.
