With six runners in the top 15, North Platte won the boys championship at the Mound City Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 5 in Mound City, Mo.
Tyler Meadows was the highest finisher for the Panthers in fourth place, three spots behind the champion Max Davies of West Platte (17:56.03). Zach Lee was sixth for North Platte, three ahead of Danny Fleshman, before a pack finished 14th to 16th: Tyler Davis, Jakob Scroggins and Chase Bridger. In between those runners was west Platte’s Zach Howerton, who was 12th.
North Platte had a team score of 45, beating West Platte, which was second with 72.
Neither North Platte nor West Platte had enough runners on the girls side to qualify for the team standings.
Sophia Rush was the runner-up in the 5k race for West Platte, finishing in 22:32.02, behind Ashley Riley from Platte Valley, the reigning Class 1 champion.
Bella Clark took 11th place for West Platte, just missing earning a medal.
North Platte’s Jenna Cassity, a freshman, took sixth place. Teammates Savannah Lingle and Maddie O’Neill were 13th and 15th, respectively.
Kearney Invitational
With the Suburban Conference Blue Division race being postponed on Saturday, Oct. 6, so was this event which is run concurrently, the only difference is the league race has a different colored bib.
The makeup was on Monday, Oct. 6 at Jesse James Park.
North Platte was sixth in the boys standings and had one top-25 finisher: Zach Lee, who was 16th. Tyler Meadows took 29th and Joe DeMarcus was 31st.
Jenna Cassity took 12th and Maddie O’Neill was 24th for North Platte in the girls race.
West Platte was scheduled to run in the race but announced they wouldn’t earlier in the day.
