At the KCI Conference duals, the Mid-Buchanan boys’ wrestling team – who co-ops with North Platte – finished as the top team in the conference and West Platte finished in fourth place on Jan. 25.
In the KCI Conference, Lathrop finished in second place, Lawson finished in third place, Penney finished in fifth place and Plattsburg ended in sixth place. The North Platte and Mid-Buchanan co-op team took down Lathrop 63-18 and bested Lawson 72-12.
West Platte defeated Plattsburg with ease, 47-18, with 12 of the Tigers’ 18 points being from forfeits. The Blue Jays and Hornets were in a more competitive match as West Platte narrowly beat Penney on a tiebreaker 43-42.
Penney scored the first 18 points until West Platte’s McKanan Reade scored six points on a pin in the 126-weight class (fall 0:41). The Hornets were rewarded a forfeited win in the 132-weight class and then Blue Jays’ 138-pound wrestler Peyson Chandler pinned his opponent in 1:18.
After Penney and West Platte both won one match apiece by forfeits, Blue Jay senior Cameron Williams pinned Penney’s Talan Ash in 1:07. After three consecutive Hornet forfeits, the Blue Jays led 42-30 with two matches remaining.
In the 220-weight class, Penney’s Fisher Nixdorf pinned West Platte’s Lamar Henderson in 1:44. In the last match, Blue Jays’ 285-pound wrestler Macon McDonald fell in 5:36 to Dawson Miller as the dual was tied at 42 but a tiebreaker gave West Platte the one-point victory.
In the girls’ match, Kristen Crockett won both of her matches, starting with a forfeited win in the 135-weight class versus Plattsburg. Against Penney, Crockett pinned Alannah Haase in 4:32.
District boys’ wrestling will be on Feb. 11 and 12 at Mid-Buchanan High School. For the girls’ wrestlers, they will have to wait a week when they all compete at Oak Park High School on Feb. 18 and 19.
