The Park Hill South Panthers’ soccer team saw its 2024 season run ended with a 1-0 loss on penalty kicks to Liberty North in the Class 4 District 8 Championship game on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Park Hill District Complex.
The Panthers dominated the ball for most of regulation and the two overtime periods but could not get a shot past the North goalkeeper. On the other end, South’s keeper, junior Everette Grower, was spectacular, including stopping a shot inside the box with about three minutes left in regulation.
In penalty kicks, South Head Coach Chris Farmer decided to go with backup goalkeeper Remi Riddell instead of Grower, and the move did not pay off. Riddell was not able to stop any of the four shots by North, while the Eagles goalkeeper was able to turn away shots from two of South’s strikers.
South reached the championship game by beating rival Park Hill in the semifinal on Nov. 1, 1-0, and defeated St. Joseph Central in the quarterfinals 9-1.
