The Park Hill South football team (2-2) was tasked with taking on the juggernaut of Liberty North (4-0) – who showed why it was the Class 6 Runner-Up a season ago – when four Panther turnovers resulted in a 34-14 win for the Eagles on September 16.
The first quarter was the only one that was competitive with Liberty North taking advantage of an early Park Hill South turnover to go up 7-0. Darrien Jones fumbled the ball at the Panther 25-yard line and Liberty North’s Kaden Durso scooped it up and took it the distance on the same play.
Park Hill South knotted the game at seven when Drew Paulakovich completed a pass to Rogdryk Guillory for 82 yards midway through the opening period. On the ensuing Eagle drive, Liberty North went up 14-7 with an 11-yard passing touchdown to spark a massive scoring burst for the home team.
The Eagles scored 20 unanswered points – 13 of which happened in the second quarter to take a 27-7 lead at the break – to come out with a 20-point victory. Park Hill South senior Briggs Bartosh added to the scoreboard with 6:22 left in regulation when he rushed in for a 5-yard score.
Bartosh was the biggest positive for the Panthers’ offense – that had 219 total yards when the night came to an end – as the senior had 15 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown. Paulakovich completed four of his seven passes for 100 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The loss moves the Panthers to 0-2 on the road this season, while they are a perfect 2-0 at home up to this point. Park Hill South will look to win its first away game of the fall when it heads to Liberty (2-2) on September 23.
