The North Platte Panthers’ volleyball team hosted a six-team tournament on Saturday, Oct. 5, with the team finishing runner-up to South Harrison.
Panthers’ Head Coach Summer Richardson told the Citizen she’s excited about hosting the tournament for the first time and hopes to grow it in the future.
“I hope to continue to host this tournament for many more years,” Richardson said.
The tournament also featured teams from Orrick (third place), Maysville, Penney, and Brookfield. The six teams were split into two pools where places were determined for the bracket to determine places.
In the Panthers’ first matchup, they took down Maysville in two sets, 25-19 and 25-23, before getting by Brookfield in two sets, 25-18 and 25-13. South Harrison finished first in the other pool by beating Penney in two sets and splitting versus Orrick, with both sets ending in a 26-24 score.
The Bulldogs beat North Platte 25-13 in the first set of the first-place match and ended up winning the trophy with a 25-23 win in the second set. North Platte had a 20-16 lead in the second set but could not close.
Panthers’ senior captain Katherine Richardson had three aces while serving, made three kills, earned 10 assists while having 30 attempts per match, and averaged about six digs per match. Senior Haylie Davis, also a captain, had two aces while serving and averaged two kills and two digs per match. Junior Leala Day had two aces while serving, made three kills while averaging 11 attempts, and she averaged about seven digs per match. Rylee Perkins had an ace while serving and made three kills. Seniors Ryleigh Kidwell and Kayla Humes both averaged two kills per match.
