PARKVILLE – Only three games into the season, the Park Hill South soccer team (2-1) has experienced a shutout in each one, coming out on top in two of the three.
Park Hill South opened the season on the road against Lee’s Summit West (3-3) on Aug. 25. For the sixth time in the last seven meetings, the Panthers beat the Titans – thanks to a successful PK by Benny Rouse in the final two minutes of the scoreless contest.
Park Hill South was on the wrong side of a shutout the next time it took the field. The Panthers lost 3-0 to Olathe East (2-3) on Aug. 31.
In the home opener, Park Hill South took care of business and defeated Staley (1-4) 4-0 on Sept. 6. The Panthers were aggressive early, with a pair of shot attempts – Isaiah Mesa’s shot going far left and Quinlan McNellis’ headbutt going right of the goal – within a minute of each other in the first five minutes of the game.
Asher Huffman had a free kick opportunity right outside of the box in the seventh minute and the shot was deflected by Staley’s goalkeeper. Dante Toapanta put back the miss with a headbutt to put the Panthers up 1-0, and they never looked back. Rouse, Ty Stone and Ahoy Victore all added goals to the scoreboard as Mesa and McNellis both had an assist.
Park Hill South had its second home game of the season against Raymore-Peculiar (3-1) on Sept. 12. The Panthers will once again take on Staley on Sept. 14, this time on the road.
