In lieu of the annual Panther Classic Soccer Tournament, Platte County (8-5), Park Hill (8-6) and Park Hill South (8-4) substituted the invitational into a red robin with three separate matchups between the schools with the Panthers coming out with the most wins when the week ended.
Due to a scheduling conflict, the regular tournament couldn’t be played but that didn’t stop Park Hill South from walking away with a pair of victories. The Panthers took on the Trojans for the first time this fall on Oct. 5 – two days after Park Hill was defeated by Platte County 3-1 – and the rivalry game took extra time to finish.
Park Hill South’s Ty Stone and Park Hill’s Luka Andonovski both found the back of the net in regulation, with neither squad able to pull ahead when regulation ended to extend the game. In overtime, the Panthers pulled out the victory when Lucas Smith took a pass from Zack Adams and scored to come away with a 2-1 victory.
The Trojans had won the last three matchups before they lost by one goal as the Panthers last win over the rival was a 2-1 victory in the 2020 Panther Classic. Park Hill and Park Hill South will play once again to close out the regular season on Oct. 25.
After taking down the Trojans, the Panthers hosted the Pirates and won by the same score – this time in regulation – on Oct. 6. Both teams did a solid time controlling the ball as Park Hill South had possession in 50.8 percent of the contest and Platte County having possession for 48.2 percent of the game.
While the Pirates and Panthers both had plenty of time to get some shots up, the defense was too tough for either to get many shot attempts. Park Hill South ended with 11 shots and Platte County finished with seven shots.
All three goals were scored in the first half with the Pirates taking an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals by Tyler Dansby and Rory Gladden-Kvist. Aaron Cordova scored the Pirates’ sole goal in the 23rd minute.
Park Hill South has now won its last three games and will look to continue the strong play in a home Silver Division matchup with Lee’s Summit North (4-10) on Oct. 13. Platte County will host St. Joseph’s Central (7-7) on Oct. 12 and Park Hill will head to Lee’s Summit (7-3-1) on Oct. 13.
