After winning only one game during the regular season, the North Platte Panthers’ football team will play for a district championship this Friday, Nov. 22, on the road at Penney.
The Panthers advanced by beating Putnam County, the No. 3 seed, 15-14 on the road last Friday night, Nov. 15. North Platte led 15-0 at halftime and held on after the Midgets scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns.
The Panthers’ semifinal win is their second in a row, having beat No. 2 seed Milan 26-6 on the road the previous week. Penney is the district’s top seed and has already beat the Panthers. Penney won 41-7 on Sept. 27 in Dearborn.
The Hornets advanced to play North Platte by beating West Platte 33-23 in the district’s other semifinal game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Hamilton.
