The Park Hill South boys’ basketball team (13-5) has matched its season long in consecutive wins – with five in a row – and moved to 4-1 on the season at home after a 53-34 victory over Raymore-Peculiar (5-12) on Jan. 27.
Park Hill South opened the game up with a comfortable 16-5 lead after one quarter, but Raymore-Peculiar brought the game within single digits. Michael Good and Damon Stacker both scored in the fast break in the first four minutes – with Stacker’s bucket being a dunk – but Raymore-Peculiar beat the buzzer to close the gap to 24-18 at halftime.
Park Hill South dominated in the second half, outscoring Raymore-Peculiar 29 to 16 en route to the 19-point victory. Stacker led the team with 14 points on an efficient five-of-six shooting from the field and four-of-five from downtown. Park Hill South forced 17 steals, led by Cahmai Crosby with four as the senior was the only other player to score in double figures, ending with 11 points on five-of-10 shooting.
Nine of the 10 Park Hill South players who stepped on the floor scored, as Zahir Ragsdale, Braden Parra and Sam Simmons Jr. all had five points. The victory marked five straight for Park Hill South after winning the North Kansas City Tournament and defeating William Chrisman (9-8) 63-52 on Jan. 24.
Parra had a career day, scoring 18 points and making six shots from behind the arc, both of which were career highs. Crosby added 15 points on four-of-nine shooting and two-of-four from deep, along with four rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
Simmons Jr. scored a career-high 10 points when the freshman made all three of his shots and made four of his seven free throws. Mike Collins ended with nine points, eight rebounds and one block.
Park Hill South will have some Silver Division matchups in the back end of the season as it currently holds a 2-3 record. The Panthers will be tasked with hitting the road and taking on Lee’s Summit West (17-1) on Feb. 3.
