Park Hill did just enough as individuals to keep the season alive for the team.
In the Class 4 District 8 tournament Monday, May 1, the Trojans placed four individuals in the top 15 not from the two automatic qualifying schools. Kris Snodgrass (+8, tied for third), Ryan Graves (+9, tied for eighth), Davin Dorrell (+19, tied for 19th) and Randen Plattner (+21, tied for 25th) all advanced to Class 4 Sectional 4 play next week, and any team with at least four individuals can post a team score there.
Liberty (318) and Liberty North (327) easily took the two automatic Sectional 4 spots at Shoal Creek Golf Course, but St. Joseph Central, Park Hill and Staley all had four individual qualifiers.
Park Hill finished fourth out of eight teams with a 341 but sent four individuals to sectionals for a second straight year. Snodgrass, Graves and Dorrell all qualified for a second straight year.
Snodgrass, just recently back from injury, will seek a third straight berth in the Class 4 Missouri State Golf Championships.
Park Hill South ended up sixth (355) and just missed having the four qualifiers necessary. The Panthers were just one shot back of fourth-place Staley.
Zach Bischler advanced to Sectional 4 play for a second straight season after posting a 10-over round to finish alone in 11th place. Jay Threadgill (+16, tied for 17th) and Joe Leluga (+20, tied for 22nd) also made the cut of top 15 golfers not from Liberty or Liberty North.
In 2016, Bischler finished in a tie for third at districts but missed the state cut at sectionals by just two strokes.
Park Hill’s Plattner finished in a three-way tie with two from Staley for the final three spots, while Park Hill South’s Chris Walker was 25-over and just four shots off the score need to advance.
