Park Hill haunts Platte County tennis, wins 9-0

The Park Hill girls’ tennis team showed its experience from last season’s state run when the Lady Trojans swept Platte County on September 6.

Park Hill’s Avery Whalen, above, defeated Platte County’s Ellie Fish 10-5 on Sept. 6 when the Lady Pirates lost 9-0 to the Lady Trojans.

Audrey Lynn and Avery Whalen set the tone for the match, earning the Lady Trojans’ first point after they defeated Platte County’s Olivia Holbrook and Ellie Fish 8-2. Park Hill won the other two doubles matches by a score of 8-5.

With a 3-0 advantage heading into singles matches, the Lady Trojans cruised to the victory with only one singles match being particularly competitive. Addison Mayne put up the biggest fight for the Lady Pirates, but Sydney Roberson pulled out the closest match, 10-7.

Whalen and Fish were in the next closest single match with the Lady Trojan senior defeating her opponent 10-5. Katie Miller and Cosette Stephenson battled it out with Miller winning by a score of 10-5.

Park Hill sophomore Audrey Lynn and junior Elizabeth Ericksen shut out their Platte County opponents, Maggie McBratney and Holbrook, by scores of 10-0. Lady Pirate Madelyn McFall fell to Skylar Scamman, 10-2.

Park Hill will play in the St. Joseph’s Central Tennis Invitational on September 14. Platte County will have a White Division match on the road when the Lady Pirates compete on September 15.
