PARKVILLE – In the competitive Class 4 District 8 Soccer Tournament, Park Hill (15-1) and Park Hill South (13-2-1) locked in the top-2 seeds.
There are eight teams who will be in the postseason tournament as five of the squads are above .500 with double digit wins. The Panthers have earned the top seed with a worse record than the second-seeded Panthers due to the head-to-head outcome.
Park Hill came out on top in its first 11 games of the year and has won its last four since losing 3-2 to Park Hill South on Oct. 5. The Trojans outscored their last four opponents 15-4, with the only one-goal being a 2-1 triumph over Lee’s Summit (6-10) on Oct. 12.
Park Hill shut out Staley (2-15), then defeated Liberty (10-5) and Lee’s Summit North (5-15-1) with four goals in each game. Park Hill ended the regular season with a rematch with Park Hill South on Oct. 24.
Park Hill South will have one more game ahead of the postseason, a road game at Liberty (10-5) on Oct. 26. After giving the Trojans their first loss of the season, the Panthers turned that into a 6-game winning streak before tying with Rock Bridge (14-6-3) in the Rock Bridge Shootout on Oct. 21.
The Panthers scored three goals in five straight wins before shutting out Hickman (15-6) 6-0 in the first game of the Rock Bridge Shootout. Park Hill South is averaging 3.5 goals a game this fall, its most since 2015.
Park Hill South will open the Class 4 District 8 Tournament against North Kansas City (8-9-1) on Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. Park Hill plays Staley earlier in the day at 1 p.m. as the tournament is at the Park Hill Soccer Stadium at Park Hill South.
The district semifinals are on Oct. 31 and the district championship will be on Nov. 2. If they win their first two postseason games, the Panthers and Trojans will meet up in the championship.
