Pirates winding down regular season on hot streak

Platte County’s A.J. Schrick has been a big piece for the Pirates turning their season around from a slow start to 12-4 entering the final stretch of games.

PLATTE CITY – The Platte County boys’ soccer team (12-4) has been on a tear lately, winning nine of the last 10 games en route to earning the No. 2 seed in the Class 3 District 8 Tournament.

Platte County opened the fall with a pair of losses to Class 4 opponents in the Park Hill Classic, but has since only lost twice with 12 victories in that time frame. Liberty North (13-5) and St. Joseph’s Central (10-7) – which are both Class 4 teams – are the only other teams to take down the Pirates this year.

Since the 0-2 start, Platte County has scored 35 goals and only allowed 15, including five shutout victories. The Pirates have also posted a 6-2 road record, but a 1-2 record at neutral sites.

Platte County has one more game remaining in the regular season, a conference matchup with Raytown (14-2-1) on Oct.25, and has yet to lose at home through five games. In home contests so far, the Pirates have outscored opponents 15-7 at Platte County High School.

After beating William Chrisman (11-9) 5-1 on Oct. 23, Platte County moves to 6-0 in the White Division of the Kansas City Suburban Conference. Having not won a district title since 2019, the Pirates are in a good position to end that drought this postseason.

Platte County will open the Class 3 District 8 Tournament against seventh-seeded Guadalupe Centers Charter (9-10) at Pembroke Hill High School on Oct. 28. Kansas City’s East (12-2) is the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
