Park Hill, South softball soars with multiple postseason awards

With both softball teams being in the Kansas City Suburban Conference Silver Division and in the Class 5 District 8 Tournament, Park Hill and Park Hill South combined for nine total players who claimed postseason awards.

Park Hill South senior Erin Stewart was a force to be reckoned with this fall, earning multiple postseason honors. The senior was the only Lady Panther to be an all-regional selection, making it on the second team.

Stewart was also an all-district first team and all-conference second team infielder. The Lady Panther tied for a team-high 33 hits – eight of which were doubles, along with one home run – and added a team-high 18 RBIs and 201 putouts in the infield.

Park Hill South’s Madeline NeSmith finished with an 8-10 record to be a second team all-district and second team all-conference selection. 

Madeleine NeSmith was the top pitcher for Park Hill South, making the second team all-district and second team all-conference. NeSmith posted an 8-10 record as a starter with 56 strikeouts and finished the fall with a 4.89 ERA.

Curstin Todd finished the seasons with 34 hits – counting six doubles – 11 RBIs and .330 batting average, along with 56 putouts, to make the Class 5 District 8 Second Team and Silver Division First Team.

Emalee Taylor made the Class 5 District 8 Second Team and Silver Division Second Team as an outfielder when she tied with Stewart with 33 hits while adding eight RBIs on a .333 batting average. Starting seven games on the mound, Taylor struck out 28 batters and won two games.

Bayli Middleton was an all-conference honorable mention after ending the 2022 season with 27 hits, 17 RBIs and a .293 batting average. Aadyn Rhodus was also a Silver Division Honorable Mention, finishing with 22 hits – including one home run and four doubles – with 11 RBIs and a .244 batting average.

For Park Hill, Allison Gonier impressed all fall as a utility player, posting a .380 batting average and .481 slugging percentage while also stealing a team-high 17 bases. Gonier was a selection on the Silver Division Second Team and Class 5 District 8 Second Team, along with being a first team selection on the all-region team.

Brooklyn Bertoncino was an efficient infielder this year – having a fielding percentage of .907 – while also being a solid offensive threat with a batting average of .301 and a slugging percentage of .479. Bertoncino earned a spot on the second team in the conference and in the district with those statistics.

The final Lady Trojan to end the season with an award was Autumn Bridges who was a Class 5 District 8 Second Team pitcher. Bridges tossed 954 total pitches on the season, striking out 42 batters, while having three wins and three saves.
