For the first time this fall, the Park Hill South boys’ soccer team has won consecutive games.
Following a 2-1 victory at Staley, Park Hill South headed to St. Joseph to take on Central on Sept. 22. The Panthers took down the Indians 2-0 with both goals coming in a 5:00 minute window midway through the second half.
“We have such a tough front-end schedule and it hasn’t been easy,” Park Hill South head coach Chris Farmer said. “These guys have hung in there and battled with some adversity, but we have worked on keeping that positivity up.”
The Panthers and Indians were in a battle in the first half when Park Hill South was dominating the time of possession, but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Panthers had multiple shots on goal, including two free kicks and one penalty kick, but the contest was tied 0-0 at halftime.
“We did a great job in possessing the ball, but as the case has been all year long, we had trouble finishing. I told them at halftime, just put one through the back of the net and another one will come,” Farmer said.
With 13:35 remaining in the second half, Grant English found the back of the net when the ball slipped through the hands of Central’s goalkeeper. The Panthers didn’t let up and junior Will Warren converted on another Park Hill South goal with 9:50 remaining.
“We have players who have a good first touch and we work a lot on that in practice. They did a good job with that, so I was happy,” Farmer said.
