In an early season tournament, the Park Hill girls’ golf team narrowly took the crown from Platte County at the Pirate Invitational, while Park Hill South ended in ninth place, at Shiloh Springs Golf Course on August 29.
Park Hill and Platte County tied with 346 strokes – which was 30 strokes less than third place St. Joseph’s Central – but the Lady Trojans won the tiebreaker to finish in first place since they had a higher fifth score. Park Hill’s fifth golfer, Maggie Hosking, claimed 17th place with 96 strokes to give the Lady Trojans the edge as Platte County’s Brylie Kovar took 26th place with 102 strokes.
Platte County and Park Hill had seven of the lowest 10 scores, all of which were less than 90 strokes. Lady Pirate junior Ella Green tied with Lady Trojan freshman Makenna Kincheloe in 83 strokes in third place.
The fifth-place performer was Park Hill’s Kate Martorana with 85 strokes, followed immediately by Platte County’s Mackenzie Borland two strokes behind. Rhea Akula claimed eighth place with 87 strokes for the Lady Trojans while Lady Pirates Bailey Silcott and Lily Ricketts rounded up the top-10 with 88 strokes apiece.
Park Hill took control when Reagan Bell took 13th place. Park Hill South’s top finishers were Hannah Matson and Natalie Dunaway, who tied with 109 strokes in 33rd place.
Addi Grimm ended in 39th place and Brooke Nichols finished in 43rd place. The Lady Panthers finished with 449 total strokes.
The Pirate Invitational was the first time Park Hill hit the course this season, while Park Hill South and Platte County competed in the Raymore-Peculiar Scramble Invitational on August 26. The Lady Panthers won the scramble with 142 strokes and the Lady Pirates earned third place with 152 strokes.
