Platte County commissioners last month approved the offering of $250,000 in annual grant funding for the Platte County Parks and Recreation Outreach Grant program.
According to director of parks and recreation Daniel Erickson at the Monday, March 16 commission administrative session, the county received 26 applications totaling requests for more than $450,000, with 19 of these awarded grants.
This year’s grant recipients are City of Camden Point, City of Parkville, City of Platte Woods, Friends of Parkville Nature Sanctuary, Kansas City Parks and Recreation, North Platte School District, Park Hill School District, Platte City Youth Football League, Weston Park Board, City of Edgerton, City of Northmoor, City of Riverside, Midwest Adaptive Sports, SBCAA, The Farmer’s House, Platte County Health Department, Platte City Friends of the Arts and Wings Over Weston.
The grant program is funded through the county’s half-cent sales tax for parks, recreation and stormwater abatement, which is set to expire at the end of this year.
SALES TAX COMMITTEE SOLDIERS ON
The commission-appointed committee tasked with crafting a plan forward for the parks sales tax and a possible law enforcement sales tax will continue its work despite the COVID-19 shutdown.
A meeting may be held later this week to vote on a final recommendation, which would then be heard by commissioners at their Monday, April 6 administrative session.
In light of social distancing and occupancy rules, commission sessions are open to the public, but county government plans to make the commission sessions available online to limit exposure.
Online meeting information will be available on the county website at co.platte.mo.us.
