Platte County Commissioners this week approved nearly $225,000 in parks and recreation grants to offer to area municipalities and organizations.
The annual grants are funded through the county’s dedicated parks, recreation and stormwater sales tax. Eighteen grant applications from 15 entities were received and reviewed by the park board, with 14 grants recommended for approval.
Grants will be offered to: City of Edgerton, for electrical panel replacement, city sign replacement, ADA mulch, $16,414; City of Parkville, Platte Landing Park entrance bridge improvements, $40,000; City of Riverside, Renner Brenner Skate Park and Highway 9 trail connector, $60,000 total; Weston Park Board, holiday park lighting, $7,188; City of Camden Point, edging repair and rubber playground mulch, $31,000; City of Dearborn, park updates, $26,882; City of Houston Lake, relocation and improvements to city park playground, $16,483; Little Theatre of Weston with the Parkville Nature Sanctuary, for Ghost Stories Night programming and storage, $4,915; Northland Sports Alliance, baseball equipment upgrades, $9,942; Park Girls Lacrosse, club equipment, $3,240; Midwest Adaptive Sports, for Skiing and Tubing 101 and Always Respect Everyone program, $7,290; and Platte City Friends of the Arts, outdoor summer concert series, $925.
Also at the meeting, the commission approved bid contracts for the 2024 road resurfacing projects. An award of $892,851 was awarded to Superior Bowen Asphalt Company for asphalt surfacing was approved. Also approved was a contract with Vance Brothers Incorporated for $293,753 for microsurfacing.
