Pattison earns an all-state medal for West Platte

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Though the total number of runners were small compared to most years, West Platte still had success at the state’s biggest stage.

Senior Phillip Pattison earned his third all-state medal by taking 21st in the Class 2 race on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.

Pattison ran 16:54.70 to set a new personal record and was two seconds off the fastest time at a state meet, set by former teammate Max Davies in 2017.

“He was not satisfied with his performance, as the competitor in him was hoping for 15th place or better, but he is the rare runner who can be all-state in Class 1 and then repeat that the next year in Class 2,” West Platte coach Mike Lowe said.

Pattison, who is being recruited by schools for both cross country and basketball, is the seventh three-time all-state runner at West Platte.

Teammate Charlie Kinslow (71st) and Ryan Pattison (156th) also ran for the Bluejays. Kinslow, a freshman, set a new personal record with his time of 17:44, breaking the 18-minute mark in his final two races of the season.

West Platte had two runners in the girls Class 2 race.

Lexi Elmore took 52nd place and Bella Clark was 72nd. Elmore, a senior, had a pair of all-state medals and helped West Platte bring home two trophies in her four seasons. Clark, a junior, set a new personal record with a time of 22:00.70 — four minutes faster than her time as a freshman.
