The Platte County Pirates’ softball team has won six out of seven games heading into Tuesday’s, Oct. 9, game at William Chrisman, which included an 18-1 drubbing of Raytown on the road.
The only loss during the stretch was a 6-5 decision at Fort Osage last Thursday, Oct. 3, which came one day after the win over Raytown.
The Pirates needed only three innings out of Dani Salisbury, who delivered a shutout, giving up only one hit while striking out five batters. The junior also brought the bat, tying the team lead with three hits while scoring two runs and tying for the team lead with three RBI.
Lead-off hitter junior Gwen Duncan tied for the team lead in runs scored with three, and tied the team lead with three hits and drove in two runs. Sophomore Kelly Bullano had two hits and also scored two runs, and drove in three runs. Junior Emily Huel, sophomore Bryli Seifert, and senior Kennady Carrel all drove in a run. Marlee Snyder-Richardson scored two runs. Raytown committed ten errors in the game.
Platte County got an 8-7 win at home over Grain Valley in extra innings. The Pirates got two runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off. Sophomore Lillian Talbot led the way with four hits, followed by freshman Kinleigh Howren, who had three hits and led the team with three runs driven in. Duncan and sophomore Reagan Ball each had two hits. Ball went all nine innings, giving up seven runs on 15 hits, but only four of the runs were earned. Ball walked two and struck out one batter.
