Pirates impress at conference meet

The Platte County cross-country teams ended the regular season on a high note as the Pirates and Lady Pirates both finished in the top-2 of the KC Suburban Blue Conference Race at Smithville on Oct. 16.

Andrew Early and Andrew Johnson were the first two boys’ runners to cross the finish line. Early finished with a time of 16:57 and Johnson ended the race with a 17:00 time.

Pirate senior Jace Trimble finished in fourth place with a time of 17:31 before a trio of Platte County runners finished back-to-back-to-back from 10th place to 12th place. Kage Audas was the first of the three to finish when the junior ended with a time of 18:19.

Right behind him was Kade Meinke, who ran the 5K in 18:22, and Tanner Johnson finished with a time of 18:30. Benjamin Letcher ended right in the top-20 when the freshman ended with a time of 19:48.

The Platte County boys narrowly defeated Smithville in the conference race as the Warriors had seven of the top 14 runners. The Pirates ended with 28 points and the Warriors finished with 29 points.

In the girls’ race, Platte County sophomore Sisely Mitchell finished in second place with a time of 19:50. Carmen Gentilia was the fourth runner to cross the finish line when the sophomore ended with a 21:10 time.

Sloan Kassen ran the 5K in 22:21, earning 12th place and Alex Beeman was the first of three straight Pirate finishers. The sophomore ended with a time of 23:05 in 16th place.

Marissa Orellana ended with a time of 23:42 and Julia Greco was right behind her teammate as the sophomore finished the race in 24:10. Madison Palmer finished in 24:16 and the freshman ended in 20th place overall.

The Lady Pirates finished in second place in the conference with 46 points, behind Kearney who ended with 27 points. Platte County’s next race is districts at Lee’s Summit North High School on Oct. 30.
