The Platte County Pirates’ softball team had an exciting run to the Class 4 District 8 championship but fell short to Kearney 7-0 on Monday, Oct. 21, at Winnetonka.
Sophomore Reagan Ball got the start for the Pirates and went all seven innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits and struck out two batters. Ball also started the semifinal versus Smithville and went all six innings versus the Warriors, giving up four earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
Sophomore Bryli Seifert led the offense with two hits which included a double. Ball and sophomore Kelly Bullano each had a hit for Platte County. Bullano was the star of the game versus Smithville driving in five runs which included a three-run home run and she scored two runs. Freshman Kinleigh Howren had two hits and junior Gwen Duncan had a hit and scored two runs.
The Pirates batted only twice in a 19-0 drubbing of Lincoln-Kansas City in the opening round of the bracket last week. Howren, along with senior Haley Schank and Lillian Talbot each had two hits for Platte County. Howren and Seifert led the team with three runs batted in apiece.
