The Platte County swimming team brought home a conference title for the first time in eight years at the Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division Meet on Oct. 29.
The Pirates finished the weekend with 551 points, which was 115 points more than second place Raytown. Deacon Gutshall had himself a day, breaking the program record in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles.
In record setting fashion, Gutshall finished in second place with a time of 1:47.62 in the 200 and second place with a time of 4:50.18 in the 500. The sophomore was also on the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
Gutshall was joined by Gage Jonkman, Collin Burton and Palmer Keith who won the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:24.65. Carson Howe subbed in for Jonkman in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Platte County claimed second place with a time of 1:31.49.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Weston Grimes, Howe, Brayden Carter and Jonkman teamed up. That squad ended in second place with a time of 1:48.12.
Burton took third place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.51 and won the 100-yard butterfly in 57.04 seconds, followed by Carter and Jack Hokanson who were the next two finishers with times of 59.83 seconds and 1:03.35, respectively. In the 100-yard freestyle, Howe came out in first place in 51.97 seconds.
Keith won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.53, followed immediately by Austin Hough and Hokanson in the next two spots. Hough ended in 2:18.66 and Hokanson finished with a time of 2:21.90.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Howe claimed second place in 23.13 seconds, Joey Croy was in fifth place in 24.86 seconds and Carter was in sixth place in 24.94 seconds. Jonkman won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.32.
