A Platte City girl recently made headlines for her interaction with country star Miranda Lambert.
Remi Davenport, 8, was brought up on stage by Lambert during a concert in Wichita late last month at Intrust Bank Arena.
Her mother, Chelsea, had seen Lambert perform many times but the two took a ‘girls trip’ to Wichita on Oct. 26 to see Lambert for the second time together.
The first was last year in Kansas City, where they had a chance to meet Lambert and get a photo with her.
They were fortunate enough to get pit passes for the Wichita concert and left Platte City at 11 a.m. to get to Wichita. When gates opened at 2 p.m., they ran straight to the front.
Little did either know that Lambert would bring Remi, a second grader, on stage later that night and provide her with a chance to sing with her favorite singer.
“This little girl has stolen my heart all night long,” Lambert said as she asked for her crew to get Remi on stage.
Remi told Lambert she was from Kansas City and then joined her in singing ‘All Kinds of Kinds’ — after each cried on stage.
“I wanted to pass out,” said Chelsea of watching her daughter on stage. “I couldn’t stop crying. She couldn’t have chose a better song.”
The song was a perfect choice for her mother since Remi was born with several medical issues and spent time in the NICU. She was left with nerve damage on her face that leads to a little bit of a crooked smile.
The lyrics they sang together were: Ever since the beginning, to keep the world spinning, it takes all kind of kinds.
“Thank you for showing her it’s beautiful to be different,” Davenport tweeted to Lambert.
From there the video of the two on stage went viral on social media after Lambert shared posts made by Davenport, who is a North Platte graduate. So is her husband and Remi’s dad, Steven.
Lambert posted the video on her Twitter page and had more than 10,000 interactions in the 2-minute clip with Remi. On Facebook, it generated more than 26,000 shares and Lambert’s Instagram had more than 114,000 likes on the video.
All of the sudden, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Billboard, iHeart Radio, Q104, Taste of Country and XM Radio host Storme Warren all lined up interviews with Remi and Chelsea.
Lambert tweeted, “Sometimes there is a face in the crowd that captivates you. Thanks for the tears, smiles & for being who you are. You inspired us all. I’ll never forget you.”
When they left the arena they were given high-fives and Remi even got an autograph request that night.
On Halloween, Remi dressed up as, you guessed it, the girl on stage with Miranda Lambert.
The two already have plans to see Lambert when she comes to Kansas City again on Feb. 6.
