The effort to trigger a state audit of the City of Parkville has started.
Earlier this fall, the Citizens for a Better Parkville political action committee announced its intent to seek a state audit if the city itself didn’t seek one. As mayor Nan Johnston and Parkville officials have declined, the group announced last week it had started to gather signatures.
According to the group, the signatures of 450-550 registered voters in Parkville would be required to trigger an audit by the Missouri State Auditor’s Office.
The Village of Ferrelview, which recently underwent a petition state audit, received a final bill of more than $40,000 from the Missouri State Auditor’s Office — a bill which the village is struggling to pay, see the related story in this issue.
While the city contracts with independent auditors for a financial review each year, Citizens for a Better Parkville has stated the audit is not about the city’s budget.
“It’s about receiving a third-party analysis of the decisions and actions made by the Parkville elected,” the group said on its Facebook page this week.
