A physical altercation last week at a Platte City liquor store left one man with injuries requiring surgery and the other facing a felony charge of assault.
According to court documents, Devin Smith, 19, allegedly attacked the victim Thursday, April 14 inside World Liquor on Platte Falls Road. The victim identified his attacker as did an employee at the store, and a surveillance camera showed the crime being committed.
Court records indicate Smith punched the victim, leaving him with a broken nose and damage to his right eye that required surgery along with stitches on his eye lid. The victim apparently walked from the scene before flagging down a Platte City Police Department officer in the parking lot of Platte County High School.
The officer observed heavy bleeding, and an ambulance transported the victim from the scene.
On Friday, April 15, the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office filed the assault charge. A warrant was issued for Smith’s arrest, but he does not appear in the county’s active in-custody list.
