Platte County and Park Hill players selected with all-district and all-conference honors

Platte County’s Kate Brown was on the 1st team in the Pirates conference and district.

When the Park Hill and Platte County volleyball teams met in the Class 5 District 16 Championship Match, it was inevitable that multiple Trojans and Pirates would go on to be awarded on the all-district team.

After winning the tournament, Park Hill had four Trojans honored with a selection on the all-district team, while three Trojans made their all-conference team. Platte County had four players chosen for the all-district team, along with five Pirates selected to their all-conference team.

Platte County’s dynamic senior duo of Kate Brown and Emerson Walter were large pieces in the Pirates’ success this fall as both were selected on the 1st team in the Suburban Kansas City Blue Division and the Class 5 District 16 Tournament. Platte County junior Karsyn Stehlik was also selected on the 1st team all-conference, and 2nd team all-district.

Brown had a team-high 336 kills on the season, along with 225 digs, 20 total blocks and 20 assists. Walter had a team-high in four categories: 451 service aces, 275 points, 64 attacks and 859 assists - in addition to 267 digs and 23 kills.

Stehlik ended the season with 188 kills, 31 receptions, 23 block assists, 27 total blocks, 65 digs and a team-high 538 attacks. Mary Grace Hunter ended her Pirate volleyball career with 671 attacks, 175 kills, 178 digs and a team-high 416 receptions as the senior was selected to the 2nd team in Platte County’s conference and district.

Kendall Johnson was the final Pirate to be honored with a postseason award when she was selected the 2nd team in the Blue Division. Johnson finished her sophomore year with 398 attacks, 174 kills, 94 attack errors, 30 total blocks and 33 digs.

For Park Hill, the junior duo of Shaye Koski and Aisha Aiono were both awarded with postseason honors for the all-conference and all-districts teams. The Trojan juniors were both on the 1st team in the Class 5 District 16 Tournament; and in the Suburban Gold Division, Koski was on the 1st team and Aiono was on the 2nd team.

Koski finished her junior campaign with 369 kills, 235 digs, 40 aces and 31 blocks. Aino ended the season with 330 kills, 76 blocks and 119 digs, while she passed at a 1.88 percent and hit +.329 percent.

Park Hill junior Devin Hoover was the third Trojan selected for her regular season success as Hoover was an honorable mention in the conference and on the 2nd team in districts. The Trojan finished the season with 178 digs, 20 aces and 15 blocks.

Emily Pella’s 547 assists, 137 digs and 24 aces helped the junior earn a spot on the 2nd all-district team. Park Hill finished the season with a district title and Platte County ended 2021 with a 24-10 record.
