Platte County golf hosts Annual Pirate Scramble

In Platte County’s opening home golf meet, 18 schools – including Park Hill and Park Hill South – came out to compete in the Pirate Scramble at Shiloh Springs Golf Course on April 4.

One stroke was the difference in margin between Platte County and Park Hill South as the Pirates ended with 150 and the Panthers finished with 151. Platte County tied with Lee’s Summit West for third place to push Park Hill South to fifth place, while Park Hill had 173 strokes to end in 10th place.

In the scramble competition, each school has a two-player team at each hole where each player hits a shot, then the players decide which spot they like better for the next shot. The person whose shot was not taken picks up their ball and moves it to within one club length of the selected spot.

Park Hill’s Mason Beane and Luke Spaeth finished the Pirate Scramble with 87 strokes on April 4.

The Platte County duo of Parker Amos and Carson Childers was the third best scramble team shooting a 70. The Pirate team of Jackson Gabbert and Jake Kingery ended with 80 strokes, while Dylan Mitchell and Connor Harmon shot an 84.

For Park Hill South, Calvin Gile and John Rieger tied for the fourth best score – with a team from Kearney – with 72 strokes. Mikey Walz and Kaiden Culberston earned 12th place, along with Nathan Verachaert and Zach Holt finished in 20th place out of 48 total scramble teams.

Luke Minter and Cam Jones, for Park Hill, finished in 27th place with a score of 86. Mason Beane and Luke Spaeth closed out the day right behind them with 87 strokes.

Aedan McBride and Austin Nash ended with 90 strokes. Park Hill South and Platte County will travel to Tiffany Greens Golf Course for Park Hill’s home golf meet on April 7.
