Alex Beeman is a talented Platte County High School student who believes that discipline is an important element for success in school.
Her commitment to her studies paid off recently when she found out she scored a perfect 36 on the ACT test.
About a month before the test she began intense study for about an hour, three to four times each week.
When she was told she had scored a perfect score on the test, she also found out she was the only student in her class who did.
“It was exciting,” Alex said. While she was a little bit nervous while taking the test, she was not surprised when she heard the news on her score.”I was very excited but I was not shocked. I took the ACT as a freshman and received a 35 on that test, so I knew that getting a 36 was a good goal for me and I prepared well. I was however very shocked my freshman year when I received a 35.”
For Alex, the hardest section on the ACT test was the English one. “I could not for the life of me figure out how to properly use a colon, and honestly still don’t really know.”
The last time a Platte County High School student had a perfect score was in 2017 when Grant Dixon achieved the honor.
Alex does well in all her classes. “I do the best in math for sure. I don’t necessarily struggle in any classes but the one that doesn’t come easy is definitely Spanish.”
As a junior, Alex is making plans for the next phase of her education.
“I am going to major in something math or science related,” Alex said. “I have looked a lot at engineering but am not certain yet. I am only a junior so I am still figuring things out. I am working on building a college list but as of now I don’t know anything for certain. I am interested in something in the engineering field, but do enjoy medical/biological as well, so I like to say bio-engineering or something similar but I still have some time for these decisions.”
While studying consistently and family support were instrumental in her ACT success, Alex gives a lot of credit to her teachers.
“My math teacher, Mrs. Whitmer has been a huge contributor to my academic success as she encouraged me to try for the 36,” Alex said. “Dr. Cordova the Delta/Leap teacher also gave great advice and resources.”
Her extra time outside school and study periods is devoted to a wide range of activities.
“I run cross country, play soccer, and am in Platte County’s show choir, Sound Express,” Alex said. I am also a leader of FCA club and a STUCO officer at our school. When I’m not doing school activities I enjoy snowboarding, biking, and hanging out with friends.”
Alex’s mom and dad are most proud of how their daughter treats other people.
Since Alex has always been a good student over the years, they weren’t really surprised when she achieved a perfect score.
“Based on the amount of work she put into preparing for this test, it was not that surprising,” Jen Beeman, Alex’s mom said. Jen and her husband both did well on their ACT tests when they were in high school, but not as well as their daughter.
When asked what would be the perfect profession for Alex to pursue, Jen said, “My husband mentioned economist the other day, but we just want her to find something she enjoys.”
Alex recommends that students who will be preparing for ACT tests use official practice tests from online. “They are the best study resources and are the only thing I used to study,” Alex said. “No other resource can teach you the way the ACT practice tests asks questions like the actual test.”
