Platte County takes 10th at Independence Invitational

Platte County took 10th place in the 21-team field at the Independence Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Shannon Banark took third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.84, coming in between Liberty North’s Ainsley Dillon (24.91) and St. Teresa’s Academy’s Lauren Fallis (25.79) In the 100-yard butterfly, the junior took fourth with a time of 1:01.94.

Banark, Emilia Wisniewski, Sophia Zimmerman and Drew DeLay took ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. DeLay added a seventh-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Park Hill South 222, Platte County 105

In a dual on Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Panthers picked up a victory against the Pirates at the Platte County Community Center North in Platte City.

Park Hill South won 10 of the 12 events, including all three relays.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Brayden Adams, Emma Clark, Sydney Staebell and Christine Hwang took first in 1:55.89, a winning margin of 23 seconds.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lola Reuscher, Clark, Natalie Maris and Hwang took first in 1:46.47. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Staebell, Brayden Adams, Maris and Reuscher won in 4:03.61.

Staebell added two firsts in individual events, winning the 200 freestyle (2:05.20) and 500 freestyle (5:35.52).

Hwang won the 50-yard freestyle (25.89) and Chloe Bowman was the highest placer out of four Panthers taking part in the 1-meter diving portion. Reuscher took first in the 100-yard freestyle (57.54)

Adams won the 100-yard backstroke for the Panthers in 1:07.28 and Clark won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.75.

Shannon Banark accounted for both of the wins for Platte County.

The all-stater won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.66, winning by nearly seven seconds ahead of Clark. Banark won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.83, beating teammate Lindsey Swindler.

Platte County: The Pirates will take part in the COMO Invitational on Jan. 3-4 in Columbia, then go to Park Hill on Tuesday, Dec. 7 for a match against Park Hill.

Park Hill South: The Panthers will host Kearney in a dual at the Park Hill Aquatic Center at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
