Platte County tennis finally beats Liberty North, starts 2-0

The 10th year turned out to be the charm.

Platte County’s first win in an annual series with Liberty North came Tuesday, March 28 at Bennett Park in Liberty, Mo. The Pirates emerged with a 5-4 victory after Noah Singer came out with a win in the final singles match.

Singer ended up in a 10-10 tie then won a series of lengthy points to take the tiebreaker 7-2 to clinch the dual.

Liberty North led 2-1 after doubles with Platte County’s lone win coming from Singer and Brayden Percival at No. 2.

Payton Anderson and Braden Rowe saw their first varsity action for the Pirates in singles but didn’t come away with wins. Instead, the experienced returners — Spencer Kunz (No. 1), Singer (No. 2) and Specner Klopfer (No. 3) — came away with wins along with Jack Lawver (No. 5).

Platte County 9, Grandview 0

The Pirates improved to 2-0 and won their Suburban Conference Blue Division opener Monday, April 3 in Grandview, Mo.

Platte County dropped just three games total in the sweep. Kunz (No. 1) won 8-2, while Singer was an 8-1 winner at No. 2. Klopfer, Anderson and Burt Stinnett were all 8-0 winners.

In doubles, Platte County won all three matchups by a score of 8-0 with Lawver teaming with Anderson at No. 3.
