A rematch of last year’s Class 3 District 16 soccer finals will happen in the opening round this year.
The seedings were released for the upcoming district tournament that will be hosted at Platte County. The Pirates draw Smithville in the first-round of the four-team district.
The Pirates face the Warriors — last year’s district champs — at 6:45 p.m. on May 14. Earlier that day, top-seeded Kearney will play Winnetonka.
The final is at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16.
Class 4 District 15
Park Hill South is the No. 3 seed in the upcoming district hosted by Liberty North High School.
The Panthers will face Liberty North at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15. The earlier game that day pits defending district champion Liberty against North Kansas City at 6 p.m.
The final is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 17.
Class 4 District 16
Park Hill will look to keep its perfect district mark in Class 4 intact during the Class 4 District 16 Tournament in St. Joseph.
The Trojans have won district titles the previous three years under the new four-class system and will look to make it four in a row as the No. 1 seed. Park Hill opens against Oak Park at 5 p.m. on May 15 at Bode Middle School in St. Joseph in the first round. The late game pits Staley against the host St. Joseph Central at 6:30 p.m.
The championship will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 17.
BASEBALL
Staley and St. Joseph Central received first-round byes in the Class 5 District 16 baseball tournament that will be hosted at Park Hill South.
The event starts on Saturday, May 12, starting with the host Panthers playing Platte County at 11 a.m.
The two teams met in the Northland Invitational earlier this season and the Pirates won on a walk-off double by Christian Grissell.
Game two of the day will pit Park Hill vs. Oak Park in the No. 3 vs. 6 showdown.
The semifinals on Monday, May 14, will feature top-seeded Staley (30-1) playing the winner of Platte County/Park Hill South at 2 p.m.
St. Joe Central draws the winner of Park Hill/Oak Park at 4:15 p.m. in the other semifinal game.
The championship is set for 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16.
Class 2 District 16
There will be a third meeting between North Platte and West Platte this season.
The two teams will face off in the opening round of the Class 2 District 16 tournament in a matchup of the No. 4 and 5 seeds.
That will be the first of a tripleheader hosted by West Platte at Benner Park on the opening day of tournament on Thursday, May 10.
The Panthers and Bluejays will play at 4 p.m. and the winner will move on to face top-seeded Lone Jack in the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 14. Other Day 1 games include Concordia vs. Kansas City Lutheran at 2 p.m. and Crest Ridge vs. Wellington-Napoleon at 6 p.m The winner of those game will face off at the 7 p.m. semifinal at May 14.
The title game is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 17.
