Shelby part of 3 league titles for Park Hill

Park Hill finished with three championships at the Suburban Conference Gold Division meet held on Friday, April 4, at Blue Springs South High School.

All three titles came from the girls team, which finished third in the team standings with 94 ½ points, behind Blue Springs (120) and Lee’s Summit West (213½). The youthful boys squad took seventh with 36 points.

Taiya Shelby won the 200-meter dash in 25.30, beating teammate Caleia Johnson for first place.

The two joined Teresa Thomas and Jena Hahlbeck to help the Trojans win the 4x400 relay — keeping the team’s winning streak alive this season in Missouri meets — running 3.57.72 and winning by four seconds ahead of Lee’s Summit West.

Shelby added another first in the 400, running 56.37, winning easily over Lee’s Summit West’s Jana Shawver, who ran 59.51.

Kristen Birmingham was second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 3 inches. Simone Smith was the runner-up in the triple jump.

Thomas was third in the 100 dash, while LaShunda Tapp was third in the shot put.

The Trojans 4x200 team was the runner-up and the 4x100 team took third.

Jordan Birmingham, Kristen Birmingham, Johnson and Thomas was on the 4x100 squad. Kristen Birmingham, Thomas, Johnson and Shelby was on the 4x200.

The only top-three finishes for the boys came in the javelin, where Kolby Heinerickson was second and Seth Garrison took third.
